China I-compressedNANYANG, Henan (China Aid) — “I’ll skin you alive if you dare to complain again,” an official told a Christian in China’s central Henan province as a demolition team reclaimed his property on June 12.

A gang hired by government officials seized a three-acre soybean field on June 12 belonging to Bai Fengju, a local Christian, in order to build a Buddhist temple on the site. A week earlier, they forcibly took the land only to later return it, offer him 2,000 Yuan (U.S. $304) in compensation and personally apologize after another Christian posted pictures of the bulldozed field on social media. However, despite the apparent reconciliation, the gang returned and resumed digging trenches, building walls for the temple and destroying crops.

Ralphs-compressedWASHINGTON — The U.S. Supreme Court has allowed a ruling to stand that requires the owner of a Washington pharmacy, along with two of his pharmacists, to stock the morning-after pill despite their religious convictions regarding abortifacients.

As previously reported, in 2006, Ralph’s Thriftway owner, Kevin Stormans, received a call inquiring whether the location sold the morning-after pill. After replying that the pharmacy did not carry it, he began to receive anonymous complaints via phone and email. Ralph’s Thriftway was soon also picketed and complaints were filed with the Washington Board of Pharmacy, which launched an investigation.

The following year, the state passed regulations requiring that pharmacies stock and dispense the morning-after pill, and the legal organization Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF) filed suit on behalf of Stormans and two of his pharmacists, Rhonda Mesler and Margo Thelen, who objected to the requirement because of their Christian faith.

WASHINGTON — Concerns are being raised as Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has been silent about Monday’s U.S. Supreme Court ruling striking down a Texas abortion law as being an “undue burden on abortion access.”

As previously reported, the court issued its 5-3 decision on Monday, stating that the Texas regulations, which require abortionists to have admitting privileges at a local hospital and keep their facilities up to the same standards as ambulatory surgical centers, are unconstitutional.

“We conclude that neither of these provisions offers medical benefits sufficient to justify the burdens upon access that each imposes,” Justice Stephen Breyer wrote for the majority. “Each places a substantial obstacle in the path of women seeking a pre-viability abortion, each constitutes an undue burden on abortion access, and each violates the federal Constitution.”
