baby II pdBRIDGEPORT, Conn. — An abortion facility in Connecticut that has been in operation since 1975 and is believed to have ended the lives of 150,000 children over the past 40 years has now closed.

Summit Women’s Center in Bridgeport has closed its doors according to a report from a local chapter of a nationally-recognized pro-life organization.

“Their business has been down for quite a while and statistics show that less women are getting abortions,” writes Marilyn Carroll and Carmen Vazquez of Operation Save America (OSA) of Connecticut in a blog post. “When we started [conducting pro-life outreach] in 1990, Summit was doing up to 80 abortions a day, four days a week. Now in Sept. 2015, the norm has been less than 10 abortions a day two days a week.”

The women said that they learned that the building was for sale a month ago and were told that the facility was no longer performing abortions.

Summit Women’s Center has been the subject of a number of lawsuits surrounding women who have been injured during the abortion procedure.

“Susan Richman has had a malpractice suit against her. Mark Blumenfeld was in the newspaper for slapping a patient on the table and taking prescription drugs illegally,” OSA outlines. “Foster was fined $5,000 by the state medical board for taking out a woman’s uterus at St. Mary’s Hospital in Waterbury, while the woman was still pregnant with her baby!”

Another situation involved a women whose uterus and bladder were perforated during the abortion.

“Her baby was bigger than the abortionist thought (21 weeks) and [the abortionist] ripped apart half of the baby and couldn’t get the second half out,” the organization explains. “The mom was hemorrhaging all the way to the hospital. Summit had to pay her $350,000 in damages and she could never have a baby again.”

In 2005, Michael Britt, a former janitor at the facility, pleaded guilty to sexually abusing three teenagers in the modeling agency he owned in the building shared with Summit.

Christians have been ministering outside of the facility for the past 25 years, calling the abortionists to repentance and urging mothers not to have their child murdered. Carroll and Vasquez report that since 1990, they have seen 2371 babies spared because of the pro-life efforts at the facility. Over 400 people are also believed to have come to Christ.

“It’s so incredible that this abortion center has closed,” they stated in their blog post. “We can’t even put into words the emotions and memories we are feeling and thinking about. We’ve been waiting for this ‘big day’ for the last 25 years. We needed to be faithful like Noah. It is God’s perfect timing.”

There are now seven remaining abortion facilities in Connecticut, four of which are Planned Parenthood offices. Summit has other locations in Georgia, Michigan and Nevada.
